MTV Gets Brainwashed!
You may know Mr Brainwash (formally, Thierry Guetta) as the guy holding the video camera in Banky’s 'Exit Through The Gift Shop' but MTV Australia will forever know him as the crazy Frenchman who turned our office into a masterpiece.
The ever-entertaining stencil pop-artist and Banksy counterpart crashed the MTV offices last week to party with guests and give MTV HQ a makeover of epic proportions.
Talking to MTV VJ Kate Peck during the event, the artist told her how excited he was to be in Sydney.
“I’m very happy to be in Australia, it’s very, very far from everywhere.”
“It’s hard to get [here], but it’s heaven.”
Partygoers walked into an array of pop art splattered on the walls, paying tribute to music’s greatest legends like Jim Morrison and The Rolling Stones.
Mr Brainwash even threw in some iconic Star Wars Storm Troopers to liven up some bare walls and an Albert Einstein stencil holding a sign saying ‘love is the answer.’
Giving some insight into his artwork choices, Mr Brainwash explains why some of pop culture’s biggest names are plastered on our walls.
“I tried to bring some art that represents MTV. MTV the way that I know it.” He told Kate Peck.
“Everything that is iconic. You know, like MTV. When I was a little boy, I grew up with MTV. So MTV is a legend.”
The night was a huge success, with guests dancing to French house DJs, Ponez and MK Grass and enjoying cocktails served up by the Trolley'd guys dressed as pilots.
So, what did Mr Brainwash think of the party held in his honour?
“I’m having fun and meeting people, right now I’m at MTV having a great party!”
The exuberant artist was seen floating around talking to guests and even adding some extra pieces on a large curved wall- a graffiti mural saying “follow your dreams.” The audience was captivated by his style and vibrant personality.

If you didn’t catch him this time around, don’t worry, Mr Brainwash will be back in May to work his magic on an installation for Semi-Permanent in Everleigh, Sydney and MTV will be there to capture all the hype.
“They’ll give me a big space to express myself, and that’s what I’m going to do.” The artist said.
After Australia, Mr Brainwash is heading off to Madonna's house to paint one of her gym walls among other exciting new projects all over the world.
We can’t wait to catch up with the newest member of the MTV family when he’s back in the country later this year.
