Nicola from 'Freshwater Blue': Interview
The premiere for MTV’s first real life drama ‘Freshwater Blue’ is only days away, and anticipation is reaching fever pitch!
You’ve met the stars of ‘Freshwater Blue’, now it’s time to dig beneath the surface and find out what they’re really about! MTV sits down with Nicola ahead of the ‘Freshwater Blue’ premiere to talk meeting celebs, taking criticism and Season 2…
MTV: You’ve met some big time celebs of late, including Ja Rule at the MTV Summer launch – did you get star-struck?
Nicola: Yeah, I was a bit star stuck at first but then when we met him, we just had a few drinks, I took a few snaps, had a dance, yeah it was fun!
MTV: How has it been doing all the events and walking red carpets?
Nicola: It was a bit overwhelming at first, I didn’t really know how to handle it, and then I took the approach, just deal with it as it comes, instead of panicking about what could go wrong. I’m pretty down to earth, so I just cruise through it.
MTV: How do you think you’ll take it if people criticise the show?
Nicola: Well, we’ve already got a hate page on Facebook! It’s pretty funny, a few of the girls get really upset about it, but not that any publicity is good publicity, but they’re so into it that they’re writing about it! So I’m like great! They’re gonna watch it! I don’t know if it’s hitting the wrong buttons, but they’re obviously passionate about it in some way so… Some of the comments are so wrong, it’s just funny.
MTV: Monique said she doesn’t watch any episodes back on air – do you do the same?
Nicola: No! I like to watch the episodes back! Obviously they can’t fit our whole life, a whole year into eight half hour episodes, so it’s interesting to see how they condense it. Especially big nights and parties and stuff, it’s interesting to see what actually went on! I’m like OMG did that actually happen? I watch everything…
MTV: Have you thought about what you’d like to do after ‘Freshwater Blue’?
Nicola: My dream, ever since I was a little girl, was to be a Getaway presenter. But that’s not really a near-future goal… But I’m in performing arts, I’ve always been a dancer, I’ll always dance I’ll never give that up, but we’ll just see. I’m pretty open to any opportunities that come along…
MTV: Have you and your group of friends grown closer because of ‘Freshwater Blue’?
Nicola: Definitely. But it’s been a real test to see who your real friends are. Some people [outside the group] have reacted so badly, I don’t know whether that’s because of jealousy or they just hate the idea of it… But our friends in general have become closer.
MTV: Who do you think will deal best with being in the public eye?
Nicola: Different personalities will react differently, we’ll have to see! I don’t know if I know anyone who will react in a certain way, I guess we are all getting different opportunities and going down different paths, but we’re all on the same page so it’s good that we can go through it together.
MTV: Is there anything that’s happened on the show that you regret?
Nicola: I’ve never been anyone to regret the past, I’ve always been like everything happens for a reason. I don’t ever live by regret. I hate that. Of course there are things you want to change, sometimes I’m like, ugh why did I wear that!
MTV: So if Season 2 came along?
Nicola: Oh yeah, I’d do it for sure! I really hope it does. But we’ll see how the public love it! Fingers crossed!
