REVIEW: Movement @ Newtown Social Club
Aussie trio Movement played a sold out gig in Sydney Saturday night and we’ll be damned if there isn’t a baby boom in nine months time, because their sound is so goddamned sexy.
These are bedroom tracks for Millenials; between the sheets of a digital age where lust is clicked, licked and fleeting.
These guys have been experiencing success in the form of sold out shows since the release of their Movement EP earlier this year.
The pulses beat the tempo of a new hook up; the Movement sounds takes strokes of James Blake-esque tones and melds them with dance tracks that whisper of chaste sensuality.
The timbre of vocalist Lewis Wade’s whiskey-honey vocals grated over the synth so sensually in 'Us' and teased us into “coming over when it feels like lust.”
When the electric guitar came in on the track 'Ivory' it had a beguiling musical rhetoric that spoke directly to the primal sexuality in us all.
Movement will go on to play at Pitchfork Festival Paris in November alongside Jamie xx, Caribou and Chvrches, so if you were among the lucky few to get along to their sold out Aus shows you know these guys are about to blow up big time.
