Thousands Of Legends Rally Across Australia To Support Marriage Equality
Thousands of rainbow-clad legends have hit the streets of Sydney & Brisbane today in a heart-swelling show of support for marriage equality in the wake of the forthcoming postal vote.
Insanely huge crowds flooded the streets of Sydney's CBD as they marched from Town Hall to Hyde Park, with organisers dubbing it largest LGBTI demonstration in Australian history!!!
A similar march also saw thousands gather in the streets of Brisbane's CBD, as the nation united in the spirit of love and inclusivity....
....Aaaaaaand the right for anyone to marry Chris Hemsworth it seems, which - let's face it - we've all earned.
This delightful literal mural popped up in Sydney's Redfern in honour of the day's festivities:
And even PM Malcolm Turnbull and opposition leader Bill Shorten were united on the issue, and both voiced their support for same-sex marriage today.
Speaking earlier at the NSW Liberals and Nationals for YES campaign in Syd, Turnbull said: "Throughout my public life I've sought to ensure same-sex couples are not discriminated against and their entitlements, be it in respect of medical benefits, taxation, superannuation or employment, are no different to those afforded to heterosexual couples.
"Why then shouldn't those same rights now be extended to marriage?"
While later, addressing the huge crowd of SSM supporters, Shorten gave Turnbull some rare props for supporting marriage equality, which FYI has already been legalised in 23 other countries.
"If we win this survey, it won't be because of a particular politician or politicians," he said.
"It'll be because Australia has said it's time to make marriage equality a reality. I'm very optimistic, and today only improves my sense of possibility."
The ABS is preparing to send out the postal vote forms this week so you know what to do.
Alright Australia, it's way past time. Let's bloody do this!!!!
