Biodegradable glitter and cocktails for daaays!
The 2019 Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade is just around the corner (March 2) and we have found the best places to throw on your heels, channel your inner RuPaul and shante and stay before you watch the fabulous proceedings.
The theme of the Mardi Gras program this year is 'Fearless' and runs for two weeks with plenty of events to help ~express~ yourself.
Here are our absolute favorourite venues that are waving the rainbow flag gladly and hosting festivities to suit any taste:
Mardi Gras festivities are well and truly underway at The Bero! Tomorrow night we're thrilled to be hosting the First Mardi Gras Inc. Trivia Night from 7pm. Get your favourite people together for an evening of cocktails, community, and the chance to win some seriously fab prizes. For more details and to RSVP head to the link in bio 💜 #mardigras2019 #sydneymardigras #befearless #lovewins
A long-term haven for the LGBT+ community, The Beresford has really gotten into the swing of things this Mardi Gras season. Dog Shows, a special edition of their Absolut Brunch Series, Movie Nights, Trivia Nights, Bingay, and a Passport Party leading to a live streaming of the parade in their massive beer garden which is sure to be a hotspot next weekend.
If you aren't sufficiently hungover enough, grab a ticket to their Sunday Laneway party that features the hottest DJs, surprise live performances and an eclectic mix of indoor/outdoor party spaces to buzz around.
The Imperial Erskineville
One year on from their grand re-opening, The Imperial Hotel Erskineville proudly presents a festival with a message of pride, remembrance and inclusiveness.
With a diverse and dynamic program of drag, live entertainment and queer events, the flamboyance really ramps it up on parade day with a Honcho Disko x Mardi Party.
Here you will find talented international and local performers and DJs throughout the evening until the early morn with Amanda Lepore and Brooke Candy already confirmed to help sweat the night away.
Right in the thick of it, The Winery in Surry Hills is hosting A Battle of the Drags tribute competition to celebrate in the venue’s newly transformed rainbow oasis laneway.
Running up until next Friday, The Winery has enlisted queens from Sydney Drag Royalty to compete for the top prize. Think Gaga vs Freddie Mercury, Kylie vs Madonna etc.
A portion of the ticket sales goes to the Black Dog Institute and patrons get an Absolut cocktail on arrival too- all for $20. Gasping!
Indigenous drag artists, Black Nulla Cabaret transform into their alter egos as part of this year’s Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras. The wigs, glitter and brassy attitude are standard issue for drag artists but there is a political flavour to Graham Simms and his fellow First Nations drag queens and kings. “Today, it’s about me performing and putting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people out there and showing we exist,” @nana_miss_koori @beecruse @chel.torres.01 #indigenous #drag #artists #gay #lesbian #mardigras #festival #performance #alterego #aboriginal #glitter #makeup #blackandwhite #bnw #monochrome #blackandwhitephotography #portrait #portraitphotography #photography #documentaryphotography

If you have next Monday Feb 25 off work (cough* cough*) Mardi Gras’ Pool Party transforms the Ivy Pool Club into a "sexy and intimate playground, where you can frolic with style as handsome lifeguards survey the stunning scene. Delicious cocktails, cabana lounges, cool local DJs… and Speedos galore."
