Full Biography

Ladyhawke aka New Zealand girl Pip Brown has had a busy year recording and touring both here and across the globe. She’s played headline shows in Paris, Barcelona, Ibiza, Moscow, Australia and her native New Zealand. She also performed three times in one day at Glastonbury. She paused briefly at the beginning of July to play her first headline show in London to a sold out crowd.

Pip Brown was raised in the 80’s with a musical family and grew up listening to the likes of Stevie Nicks, Deep Purple and Joan Jett. Beginning as the drummer in a school band, Pip plays four different instruments on her debut album. She moved to Sydney a few years back and then moved to London in 2007 where she wrote and recorded the album. The album includes recent single ‘Back Of The Van’ and forthcoming single ‘Paris Is Burning’ out August 23.

Pip wrote, arranged and plays on all the songs on the album working alongside several guest producers; Magic, Another Runway, My Delirium, Morning Dreams and Dusk Till Dawn were produced with her chief collaborator, world-renowned producer Pascal Gabriel (S-Express, Bomb The Bass, Kylie, New Order) ; Kid Gloves (aka Freeform Five & Freelance Hellraiser) produced ‘Manipulating Women’ and ‘Paris Is Burning’; Jim Elliot produced ‘Love Don’t Live Here’ ‘Crazy World’ and he co produced ‘Better Than Sunday’ with Paul Harris (aka Dirty Vegas); ‘Professional Suicide’ was produced by uber-hip American producer Greg Kurstin (Beck, Flaming Lips, Lily Allen, Red Hot Chilli Peppers); Michael diFrancesco from Aussie band Van She produced ‘Back Of The Van’; and finally bonus track ‘Oh My’ was produced by Gabriel Olegavich (aka Medasyn). The final result is an album that marries serious song crafting with elements of vintage pop, electro and rock. Or as Pip puts it, “I wanted to make music that could put a smile on people’s faces and give them a feeling of nostalgia even though they may be hearing my songs for the first time”.
