Perth born, Australian Sia Furler has been hailed by critics as one of the most engrossing and seductive listening experiences of 2009. Bursting onto the international music scene in 2000, Sia has earned herself instant global success, Grammy nominations, and has been hailed the latest You- Tube phenomenon.
Sia first stepped into the international lime light as the soulful, jazz-slurring voice of Zero 7’s three Albums- including 2001’s Mercury short listed ‘Simple Things’ and 2006’s Grammy Nominated The Garden’.
Calling New York home, Sia performs regularly in out going London and the mean streets of L.A.
Sia’s unique, seductive, dysfunctional jazz styled music has been compared to the likes of Dido and Sarah McLachlan. Her emotive vocal performances and charismatic compositions has given the singer/songwriter the word of mouth reputation as a ‘must see’ live act.
2000 was the year that Sia signed to Sony Music, where she released her major- label debut ‘Healing is difficult’, which consisted of R&B mixtures and jazz styled beats. The song ‘Little Man’ earned Sia UK success.
During 2003 Sia released her EP ‘Don’t Bring me Down’. This was used in the French film 360 ‘Quai des Orfevres’. Her second album ‘ Colour The Small One’ was released in Europe and Australia a year later.
But it wasn’t until her amazing ballad ‘Breathe Me’ was chosen to soundtrack the climatic U.S TV series ‘Six Feet Under’, and her gross manipulation of a women’s body seen in her latest music video ‘Buttons’- which is the second most watched music video in YouTube history made our very own home grown star an international success. This resulted in a Myspace play of 10 million hits.
Sia’s latest album ‘Some People Have Real Problems’, tackles the topics of addiction, personal tragedy, love, separation, and overwhelming joy. Critics hailed this album as 2009’s most absorbing and sensual listening experiences.
Sia will sure be recognised as 2009’s upcoming artist and one of the most striking breakthrough Australian talents.
