Gerard Way posts epic goodbye to My Chemical Romance fans following breakup announcement
My Chemical Romance fans received a sharp shock over the weekend following the announcement that the band was splitting after 12 years together – and now, front man Gerard Way has taken to Twitter to post a personal message about the breakup.
Way’s message, which was almost 2000 words long, went into a bit more detail about why MCR had made the decision to part ways – following the band’s very short original announcement.
Gerard opened his lengthy essay with a poetic scene about a bird wandering into his house and ended with a vow that the community MCR had created will live on well beyond their physical being.
“My Chemical Romance had, built within its core, a fail-safe. A doomsday device, should certain events occur or cease occurring, would detonate,” stated the singer.
“There are many reasons My Chemical Romance ended… I can assure you there was no divorce, argument, failure, accident, villain, or knife in the back that caused this, again this was no one’s fault, and it had been quietly in the works, whether we knew it or not, long before any sensationalism, scandal, or rumor.”
After going on to thank his bandmates and their endlessly dedicated fans, the ‘Teenagers’ singer ended with the sentiment: “Since I am bad with goodbyes. I refuse to let this be one. But I will leave you with one last thing - My Chemical Romance is done. But it can never die.
“It is alive in me, in the guys, and it is alive inside all of you. I always knew that, and I think you did too. Because it is not a band - it is an idea.”
