It's Official: Netflix Has Fired Kevin Spacey From 'House Of Cards'
As the accusations of sexual assault and harrassment against Kevin Spacey begin to mount, Netflix has officially made the move and cut ties with the actor.
This move means firing him from the wildly successful House Of Cards and canning production on the upcoming biopic Gore in which Spacey was set to star.
According to Variety, producers are examining contracts with a fine-toothed comb to see if there's a way to continue House Of Cards without Spacey (who was an executive producer as well as the lead actor) as to prevent hundreds of innocent people from losing their jobs.
In a statement released by Netflix, a representative said:
“Netflix will not be involved with any further production of House of Cards that includes Kevin Spacey. We will continue to work with [production company Media Rights Capital] during this hiatus time to evaluate our path forward as it relates to the show. We have also decided we will not be moving forward with the release of the film Gore, which was in post-production, starring and produced by Kevin Spacey."
The latest allegation against Spacey comes just hours ago from actor Harry Dreyfuss, who via a Buzzfeed article revealed that Spacey had allegedly groped him while Dreyfuss, who is the son of acclaimed actor Richard Dreyfuss was still a teenager.
“It happened one night when the three of us were alone in Kevin’s apartment rehearsing my father’s lines," Dreyfuss said. "My father didn’t see, and I didn’t tell him about the incident for many years,” he wrote. “Instead, I spent the next nine years telling people the story at parties for laughs...Kevin Spacey is a sexual predator. But I still never thought talking about it seriously was ever an option.”
