This could be make or break for Brit superstars Muse

The rockers have revealed they’re headed back to the studio WITHOUT their famous frontman.

Lead singer Matt Bellamy is currently taking a break from his band as he prepares for his A-list missus Kate Hudson to give birth to their first child in July.

And while he’s busy preparing for Daddy duty – his bandmates are keen to start work on the follow-up to 2009’s ‘The Resistance.’

But with the daunting task of writing smash hit tracks being handed over to bassist Chris Wolstenholme – it’s fair to say he’s feeling the heat.

"Matt's raised the bar quite high in terms of songwriting,” Chris told The Sun.

“I'm a bit nervous because I don't want to write a song and it be responsible for the demise of the band."

And while we’re hoping that won’t be the case - it could however mark a dramatic change in direction for the super-act.

Last month drummer Dominic Howard told NME of their new material, slated for release in 2012,

"Who knows, it might be softer rock, but then it's up to me and Chris to make it heavy again. A heavy rock lullaby! But I'm sure it will move forward in some way."
