Rock lords U2 will headline the 2010 Glastonbury Festival.

Their sure-to-be-awesome performance will mark the 40th anniversary of the legendary fest, set in Somerset, England. It will also mark the lads’ first-ever Glasto appearance.

The band will top the bill on Friday, June 25 – the first night of the three-day party.

Festival organiser Michael Eavis (who also owns the farm land on which Glasto is held) told the official website: "I promised the best possible line-up for the show next year and the confirmation that U2 will play their first ever Glastonbury – and their first major festival gig since the early 1980s – is fantastic news.

"We've been trying for years... And now we've finally made it happen. I'm sure they will pull out all the stops to make next year's Glastonbury the most memorable ever."

Other acts rumoured to play next year's event include Muse, The Rolling Stones and Coldplay.
