TUNE-IN TO MTV ON CHANNEL 124, TONIGHT @ 7:30PM FOR THE 'MTV AT THE ARIA RED CARPET' SHOW.
We caught up with Aussie superstar-in-waiting Orianthi back stage at MTV’s ARIA Red Carpet rehearsals. The talented tunestress, who was handpicked by Michael Jackson to play guitar on his ’This Is It’ tour, is set to perform her new tune on our scarlet carpet. We got the lowdown on everything from MJ’s ‘This Is It’ to covering up J.Lo-style stage falls…
MTV: Are you nervous about performing on the MTV's Red Carpet show?
O: No. I don’t get that nervous about things. I just get excited. Before a show I’m just really keen to get things rolling.
MTV: What can we expect from your performance?
My new single, ’According To You’. It’s gonna be a pretty raw performance, just me and my guitar.
MTV: You’ve had a huge year what with the MJ tour and your own album. Has it all sunk in yet?
O: No not really. I don’t think it ever will. It’s been a life-changing year. From the start, it was a dream come true to play the Grammy awards, then get an email through MySpace from Michael Jackson’s people. Then the MJ audition. And I finished my record this year, too. It’s all felt like a crazy dream.
MTV: Have you see ‘This Is It’ – or is too painful?
O: I’ve seen it twice. The first time it was so emotional; the second time I watched it, it just brought back some incredible memories. It was real honour to work with him.
MTV: Are there any artists you want to hook up with at the ARIAs, say hello to etc?
O: Yeah. I’m a real Powderfinger fan. And Robbie Williams - he’s so cool. I’ve met him once after a show in Adelaide. I’d like to say hi to Keith Urban because I’m a huge fan and missed him at the Grammy Awards and the recent AMAs.
MTV: So you’ve just flown back from the AMAs?
O: I’ve literally just got back. It was an awesome night. I was sitting in the audience a couple of seats away from Ne-Yo and he smiled and waved. I’m such a fan of his. I presented the award for Favourite R&B Male and MJ won so I got to see (his brother) Jermaine. I saw some of the MJ dancers there, too, and MJ's choreographer Travis Payne and his percussionist, Bashiri (Johnson), who was doing percussion for Whitney Houston. All those people are like family, now. We’ve gone through something together that’s given us an unbreakable bond.
MTV: J.Lo famously fell over at the AMAs. Do you have contingency plans in place just in case it happens to you?
O: You know what, I missed her do that. If it happens to me I’ll land on my knees on the red carpet I'll pretend I’m really getting in to it with my guitar. So if it looks like I really am overdoing something, I’ve probably just fallen over.
MTV: We won’t say anything about the plasters on your knees, lady.
O:Thank you!
