Super-star Beyonce has been added to the already mega-wattage line-up for Saturday’s ‘Hope For Haiti Now: A Global Benefit for Earthquake Relief’ to help raise funds for the thousands that were affected by Haiti’s 7.0-magnitude earthquake.
The songstress will join hubby Jay-Z, Justin Timberlake, Rihanna, U2’s Bono and The Edge in London for a surprise one-of-a kind-performance, which will also be streamed on-line. Expected highlights will also include sets from Alicia Keys, Christina Aguilera, Dave Matthews and John Legend, Justin Timberlake, Stevie Wonder and Taylor Swift in LA, while Bruce Springsteen, Mary J Blige and Shakira are set to take part in the New York portion of the show.
George Clooney, who teamed up with MTV to organise the event, will helm the proceedings in LA while Wyclef Jean and CNN's Anderson Cooper will join in from New York and Haiti, encouraging fans to make donations after the disaster left an estimated 50,000 dead and thousands more injured, missing and without homes.
The telethon, which will air commercial-free across over 40 channels and be streamed live on-line, will be watched in over 640 million homes worldwide making it not only one of the most widely distributed telethon in history, but one of the biggest charitable efforts ever.
All donations from the telethon will directly benefit Oxfam America, Partners in Health, The Red Cross, UNICEF, Yele Haiti Foundation, The Clinton Bush Haiti Fund and United NationsWorld Food Programme. Fans can also make a contribution by downloading Saturday’s musical performances on iTunes.
