Their work has been described as “genius” but are Coldplay really the brains behind some of their biggest hits?
Well according to LA songwriter Sammie Lee Smith - No.
Sammie, who describes himself as a “well talented” yet “unknown” songwriter, claims that he was in fact the one who wrote the group’s top songs ‘Yellow’, ‘Clocks’ and ‘Trouble,’ and is suing for copyright infringement.
He wants the rockers to stop playing “his” hits and is of course demanding an unknown, but considerable amount of money for his trouble.
It’s not the first time the lads, led by frontman Chris Martin, have been accused of plagiarism. In 2008 US guitarist Joe Satriani filed a lawsuit against the stars, claiming they ripped off his track ‘If I Could Fly’ for their worldwide hit ‘Viva La Vida.’
The case was eventually dismissed, with suggestions an out-of-court settlement had been reached.
