The Red Hot Chili Peppers have spoken out against their new album being called a ‘comeback’.

After Rolling Stone magazine described their latest release ‘I’m With You’ as a comeback - as it was the bands first release in five years and the first with new guitarist Josh Klinghoffer - the band’s legendary front man Anthony Kiedis has been seeing red.

The singer told MTV News,

"What did we come back from? Malaria? Maybe in the traditional sense of the word, like 'coming back' from our break. But [words like] 'comeback,' 'reunion,' I don't know.”

“We took a moment to reflect and consider the possibilities, and we're really fortunate Josh was available and wanting to join forces with us...We didn't really ever lose full momentum, so it wasn't like we disbanded and re-banded, we just got kind of flotatious and then reformed together in a new configuration. 'Comeback' sounds like you quit and then started again, we didn't quite quit."

But while the Chili’s were never seriously considering calling it quits, Klinghoffer admitted the break was necessary, saying it probably helped give them a new lease on life.

"It's the first time the band took more than a couple months off probably in the last 10 years" he said.

The new album follows their 2006 release ‘Stadium Arcadium’ and is the tenth studio album for the Grammy Award winning superstars.

We’re just pleased the rockers have decided to finally come out of hibernation!
