Wyclef Jean has asked friends and fans to pray for the people of his native Haiti, after the island was hit by three major earthquakes.
In an official statement the former Fugees star, who hosted the MTV Australia Awards in 2008, said, “I cannot stress enough what a human disaster this is, and idle hands will only make this tragedy worse.
"The over 2 million people in Port-au-Prince tonight face catastrophe alone. We must act now.”
The singer revealed he was on the phone to someone in Haiti when disaster first struck. He added, “Their last words were, ‘I think we were just hit with an earthquake.’”
Rated a massive 7.0 on the Richter scale, it’s the biggest earthquake to ever hit the Caribbean Island.
