Paul McCartney just loves to surprise his fans with unconventional collaborations – and now, ex Beatle has done it again – this time, he’s hinted he’s going to be mashing up with Gorillaz!

The music legend, who is on the promotion trail for two previous solo albums 'McCartney' and 'McCartney II’ that he is re-releasing, has told The Quietus that he is a massive fan of Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett's band, and has even spoken about laying down some tracks!

"We have kind of talked. Nothing serious, but I like what they do. I have run into Damon at things and we have talked. It's got near a couple of times but we never had the time, I suppose."

And now, according to MTV.co.uk, sources have claimed that a collab is even closer to happening, and we might be seeing a mash up on the charts very soon.

Apparently, Damon, approached Sir Paul about a possible duet at the Q Magazine Icon award a few years ago, when the ex-Blur front-man presented the 68-yr-old an award.

The insider revealed: "Damon originally brought up the idea of doing something with Gorillaz at the Q Awards and they have been trying to sort something since."

They added: "It never worked out on the last album, ‘Plastic Beach’, but things are looking good for something together in the future."
