Her recent music comeback wasn’t quite as successful as she might have hoped – but could Whitney Houston be about to turn her career around with another crack at the big screen?

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the 80s pop icon is piped to appear in the remake of the 1976 flick ‘Sparkle,' which was inspired by the story of Motown legends The Supremes.

In what would be her first movie role in over a decade, the ‘I Will Always Love You’ singer, who appeared in ‘The Preacher’s Wife’ back in 1996, is rumoured to star as Effie, the mother of the lead character Sparkle - who’s tipped to be played by Jordin Sparks.

The original master piece followed the story of Sparkle and her two sisters, who begin singing in their church choir in Harlem in the late 1950s and become a successful girl group, while battling the trials and tribulations of fame.
