The track “Remember Me” featuring Mary J Blige (which he had the foresight to record before turning himself in) is the first single from the re-release of his chart smashing album ‘Paper Trail’.
The provocative video is said to represent the Grammy Award winning rapper’s first official message from behind bars and serves notice to all those who doubt him or have forgotten his place in the game.
"Just a friendly message for everybody who thought I was gone forever. It's a year and day and counting, understand that?" he sneers. "By the time you hear this, I'll probably be halfway home. Now remember that, suckers."
He goes on to say: "It matters not how many times you fall down; what matters most is how many times you rise."
T.I is not the only rapper to draw inspiration from time in the house of correction, and for some it’s turned out to be a very lucrative stay indeed. 50 Cent has built his reputation squarely on the back of his criminal history, while rapper Lil' Kim released her album 'The Naked Truth' eight days after she began her year and a day prison sentence for perjury conviction. The album went on to sell 110,000 copies in the opening week.
But T.I needn’t have worried; there is little chance his hordes of adoring fans will forget the rapper any time soon. And for the record, he’s looking damn fine in his orange jumpsuit too.
