Wandering down to the Sydney Entertainment Centre in torrential rain made us incredibly grateful that Winterbeatz was indoors, but sadly force of habit and Friday night drinks made it impossible to be in our seats in time for Mario. Not ideal I know, but from what we were told his set went off – and I’m sure ‘Let Me Love You’ was a hit with all the scantily-clad ladies in the house.

Lil’ Kim may have started her career in the Junior M.A.F.I.A., but these days she is most definitely a Queen Bee of Hip Hop. On her first visit to Australia she brought some wicked tunes and plenty of attitude, strutting across the stage in a corset and fishnets.

‘Get Money’ got a huge response from the crowd, and as they rapped Notorious B.I.G.’s verse word for word she exclaimed “Biggie would’ve loved this!” Kim then went on to tell us tales from her hood over a backdrop of Jay- Z and Alicia Keys’ hit ‘Empire State Of Mind’ before her big finish of ‘Lighters Up’. The crowd was only too happy to oblige.

Next up it was time for Fabolous. The quick changeovers between sets made the time fly by, with Fab hitting the stage just 15 minutes after Kim. He got the crowd moving with ‘Can’t Deny It,’ paying tribute to the late Nate Dogg who featured on the track. Fabolous then made a play for the ladies’ love with ‘So Into You’ and ‘Make Me Better’, getting a piercing squeal from the front row.

After a dozen calls to make some noise, 50 Cent appeared as a silhouette in the spotlight in his unmistakable Yankees cap and hoodie, both of which caused mini-riots as he lobbed them into the ‘Bling Ring’ crowd. He couldn’t hide his cheeky grin as ‘Ayo Technology’ kicked off a sing-along. ‘Candy Shop’ gave Fiddy an excuse to go on the prowl, and changing up the cap to a white fedora brought out his inner ‘P.I.M.P’.

Lil’ Kim joined Fiddy on stage for ‘Magic Stick’ before a playful smack on the rear sent her on her way. ‘In Da Club’ had the crowd jumping with glitter guns amping up the bling factor, and with an extended encore that included ‘Window Shopper’ and firing his DJ, it took curfew to close down the show!

Rumours are already doing the rounds as to who could appear at Supafest next year, but if the line-up is anything like Winterbeatz 2011 we’ll be in for a killer show.
