He's one of the biggest rappers in the game with a string of hits under his belt, a mantelpiece full of awards and a brand new single 'Young, Wild & Free' burning up the charts!

We caught up with hip hop icon Snoop Dogg at Summadayze 2012 to talk dance music, making movies and what's next for 2012...

MTV: Hey Snoop! So, how was your Summadayze set?

Snoop Dogg: I just performed my set, my set was cool, it was rocking. High energy, you know, I like to go back and get the people old school Snoop Dogg, new Snoop Dogg…I’m just the life of the party, I like to have a good time and that’s what this whole set was about, having a good time just celebrating 2012.

MTV: What's the last thing you think of before you take the stage?

Snoop Dogg: Just giving the people a great show, leaving it all on the stage. Like when I’m finished I don’t want to go home with nothing, I want to leave it all there on the stage, that’s what I’m thinking about before I hit the stage.

MTV: We know you love old school soul music, but you’ve also become really active in the dance scene. How do you feel about being on a line up with primarily dance artists?

Snoop Dogg: I make music that makes you dance, so I mean, it’s appropriate, you know what I’m saying? I make the kind of music that DJs can grab a hold of and spin the record and people just love rocking out to the big Snoop D O double G.

MTV: You and Wiz Khalifa are poised to be the next ‘Cheech and Chong’ with your new film project ‘Mac And Devin Go To High School’ – why did you decide to do the movie and how did you like being the leading man?

Snoop Dogg: We wanted to do something different, that was original, that was true to who we were… Why not put together a project that can feel good? So the movie and the soundtrack is what it’s all about. We want to continue to make those kinds of projects, so be on the look out for more.

MTV: We have our own film competition called the Optus ONE80PROJECT running at the moment – do you have any tips you can share?

Snoop Dogg: Well what I’ve learned about making films over the past couple of years and also working with Wiz Khalifa on ‘Mac And Devin Go To High School’ is that you’ve got to be independent. You have to create your own ideas, you have to shoot them and you got to believe them yourself, because once you believe in them you can sell them to the rest of the world. Be creative, be independent and be original.

MTV: And finally, what’s coming up for you this year?

Snoop Dogg: My daughter, we’re working on her album this year, Cori B, her solo record. Also my football league, Snoop’s Football League is expanding to Chicago and Las Vegas. We’ve been out for eight years now, we just trying to do things to help the kids out, to give them the opportunity. This is what I do - I make things happen for people who can’t make it happen for themselves, and once I teach them the program rolls on and on. That’s what love is all about.
