Kiwi cutie Ladyhawke says she is in a “dark place” after a row over her 2009 ARIA nominations kicked off.
The singer, who is up for five gongs, was set to sing at the sparkling November 26 bash but now wants to pull out.
The dispute kicked off last week when commentators from rival camps queried the singer’s eligibility for nomination.
According to ARIA Awards criteria, an artist must be an Aussie citizen or have gained or applied for permanent residency in Oz and resided in Oz for at least six months during the past twelve months.
Commentators pointed out that the singer, whose real name is Pip Brown, might rent a flat in Sydney, but she has actually been living in London for the past two years and calls Wellington home on her Myspace.
The despondent ’My Delirium’ lady said: “At this stage my head's not in a good space for (the ARIA Awards). I feel bad about the whole thing - I'd like to withdraw from it.
"I don't like this sort of controversy. I completely understand where everyone's coming from but I'd rather not do the performance than do it and be booed or whatever.
“I was excited about performing but I only just found out about the controversy, so my head's in a dark place."
