Three years since his hip hop-influenced album received decidedly mixed reviews, the singer is set to return with a more traditional pop sound. 'Bodies', the first single, is due 12 October and the album, 'Reality Killed the Video Star', is set to follow in November.
While Williams was one of the world's biggest pop stars at the start of this decade, he's been laying low in Los Angeles these last couple of years. And by laying low, we mean dressing up as gorilla and wandering around, talking conspiracy theories and eating burgers. Famously, he went on strike at the start of this year to protest the purchase of EMI Records (who he's signed to) by parent company, Terra Firma.
It seems that Williams has now sorted out his issues with the record label and is back at work. Money may have been a contributing factor in that decision. The singer signed a record-breaking £80 million deal with EMI back in 2002 and we're assuming they're quite eager to get their money’s worth.
Either way, the legendary Trevor Horn is looking after production and we’re assuming the new release will stick with a more pop-orientated sound – one that doesn't involve Williams wearing a tracksuit.
