He’s as famous for satirical lyrics that ridicule pop culture’s biggest stars as he is for his seamless flow, which may be why Eminem has come out swinging about his decision to collaborate with P!nk and Rihanna on his new album ‘Recovery’, following criticism the rapper is a ‘hypocrite’.
The Detroit native, who has in the past has parodied Michael Jackson, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera and Madonna, has defended his decision to mash his biting brand of hip hop with mainstream pop by insisting he felt both artists could ‘pull it off’.
In an interview with a French radio station Em said: "When I did the song (’Won't Back Down’) that I did with Pink I laid my parts first and kind of heard her on the record. I felt like she would smash this record, so I gave her a call and she was with it, so we did it. The other that I did with Rihanna (‘Love the Way You Lie’) is one of those tracks that I felt only she could pull it off. Both of the records, I guess you just got to hear them to know what they are."
For those that have followed the rapper’s success, it’s not real surprise that he’s decided to call on pop divas to collaborate – after all, one of Em’s biggest cross-over (and highest selling) hits was ‘Stan’ which features a hook from Dido’ s track ‘Thank You’.
Eminem’s new album Recovery is released June 22.
