It’s been three long years since they’ve visited our shores, and it’s safe to say that Duran Duran fans are ’Hungry Like The Wolf’ for another glimpse of the 80s hit-makers. Now, those fans are going to get an early Christmas present with the news that the “prettiest boys in rock” are heading back down under for a six date tour!
Heralded one of the most successful bands of the 1980s who led the charge in the ‘second British invasion’ of the charts, Duran Duran have announced they’ll be roaming our fine land with a series of large scale arena shows as well as two outdoor concerts in WA’s Swan Valley and the Hunter Valley in NSW, according to musicfeeds.com.au.
In an interview with The Herald Sun, bass player John Taylor said they can’t wait to show their fans that they’re “better than ever”, and in order to do so, they won’t be hitting the party scene as hard as they did in their 80s hey-day…
“We are coming down to Australia and it’s our responsibility to make these shows the best they can possibly be,” he said.
“We may not get another crack at it and I want people to come out of these shows thinking ‘wow, they are better than ever’. And for that to happen, at the very least you have to get a good night’s sleep the night before and take it seriously. We had a good run at the party thing in our early 20s, but nobody is yearning for it any more, I can tell you that.”
John will be joined by the rest of the original line up which includes Simon Le Bon, Roger Taylor and Nick Rhodes, who will be playing their catalogue of hits from their three-decade long career, as well as new tracks from their album ‘All You Need Is Now’.
The album, which dropped in March this year, was produced by Mark Ronson and also features Ana Matronic of Scissor Sisters fame, plus RnB starlet Kelis, as well as strings from Owen Pallett of Arcade Fire.
