Aussies had plenty of opportunity to throw the horns up this year with a host of rock legends hitting our shores!

Check out our picks below for the biggest and best rock gigs of 2010...

Slash

In April, rock legend Slash was on hand in Melbourne to launch MTV's brand new music channel MTV Classic! In what was undoubtably one of the best gigs of the year, the guitar God played a series of hits spanning his 30 year career, including tracks from his Guns 'N' Roses, Velvet Revolver and Snakepit days, as well as his recently released self-titled solo album.

He was joined on stage by vocalist Myles Kennedy, who brought the house down with his rendition of 'Sweet Child of Mine,' as well as special guests Andrew Stockdale and Angry Anderson.

The rocker returned to our neck of the woods in August this year for a series of blistering live shows across the main centres, but he's not done yet... Slash will be weilding his axe Down Under once again as part of the epic Soundwave line up in February 2011!

Guns 'N' Roses

The 'Gunners' sent fans hearts racing across Australia with the news that, as well as performing an exclusive gig at the V8 Supercar Championship in Sydney, they would be playing a string of dates in other cities across the country!

Iconic frontman Axl Rose was joined by the current line-up of Tommy Stinson, Dizzy Reed, Bumblefoot, Chris Pitman, DJ Ashba, Richard Fortus and Frank Ferrer for gigs in Townsville, Adelaide and Perth.

The pyro-heavy live show included all their classic back catalogue tracks such as 'Welcome To The Jungle,' 'Live And Let Die' and 'Sweet Child Of Mine' as well as a host of new hits off their latest album 'Chinese Democracy'.

Supported by metal icons Korn, the shows were a welcome return to form for the band and a definite highlight on the 2010 rock calendar.

Bon Jovi

The rock veterans proved they're still one of the biggest and most popular bands on the planet when they took to the stage here in December - just one of over a hundred stops on their massive 30 country, two year 'World Circle Tour'!

The boys smouldered through sets encompassing all their biggest hits from the 80s and 90s, including crowd pleasers 'You Give Love A Bad Name' and the anthemic 'Livin' On A Prayer'.

And after all these years they still know how to work a stadium - in 2010 Bon Jovi was named the world's highest grossing touring act for the second time in three years! They also received the 'Global Icon' award at the 2010 MTV Europe Music Awards, and with a 'Greatest Hits' album just out, we think the boys have well and truly earned themselves a cup of tea and a lie down!

U2/Jay-Z

U2 is as well known for their unorthodox choice of support act as they are for their blistering sets - their last Aussie tour in 2006 had egotistical rap superstar Kanye West as the opener - but this time around hip hop mogul Jay-Z was the lucky man taking the stage!

The odd pairing worked a treat as Jay-Z got the crowd on their feet with his swag of modern day rap classics, including the stunning set closer 'Empire State of Mind'.

Next up Bono proved you're never too old for rock n roll - or leather pants for that matter - when U2 took to the stage, cranking the volume all the way up to 11 and providing audiences with the spectacular concert experience the '360 World Tour' is so famous for.

The band churned out nearly 30 years worth of hits as well as plenty of material off their last album 'No Line On The Horizon'. The boys have been touring since June 2009, and after a well deserved break following the Aussie leg, they'll be back on the road playing shows in South Africa, South America and North America until July 2011!
