Covert is not the first word that comes to mind when it comes to baby-faced Daniel Merriweather. But according to the singer, who recently sat down for a chat with MTV VJ Darren McMullen, there are a few skeletons lurking in his closet that take the form of unreleased songs, and he’s adamant they won’t see the light of day any time soon.

“I think there’s a difference about writing a bunch of songs, and making an album. So when I started writing ‘Love and War’ about 18 months ago, I wanted to listen to the whole thing from start to finish and have it as a body of work. I’ve been writing and recording songs for about seven years, so there’s heaps of songs just lying around that no one will ever hear. I’ve got a hard drive, and I can’t loose that, if it gets into the wrong hands bad things will happen! It will be like an audio sex tape, very scandalous,” he jokes.

Although the 26-year-old singer insists some tracks will never be released, thanks to his recent chart success Daniel is pretty chuffed to have the rest of his offerings from ‘Love and War’ in the public sphere.

Three years ago, the soul/acid-jazz singer-songwriter traded Melbourne’s streets for the bustle of downtown Manhattan NYC. However, unlike a lot of other homegrown artists who experience success at home before venturing across the Atlantic, Daniels profile shot into the stratosphere after making a suitable impression on the Brits. Thanks to Daniels soulful sounds, superstar producer Mark Ronson, and the inevitable tabloid attention the association earned, Michael’s debut album ‘Love and War’ shot straight into the number 2 spot on the UK charts.

Now back at home for a whirlwind promotional tour, Daniel is pitted to be one of Australia’s hottest new talents, and shows no signs of slowing any time soon!
