SB: So the new album is dropping this year, happy with the way it’s shaping up?
Dan: I’m really really proud of it. Its hard, a little less kitch [than the last album], more aggressive and way more ambitious. It’s just better. I’m not saying I didn't like the last album, [but] this album came out the way we wanted. This is our second album, and we're learning and evolving when it comes to making music. And with this album we were able to spend the right amount of time on each song to bring them to a point that we were happy with.
SB: A lot of people talk about how tough the second album can be. Was it tough process?
Matty: It was definitely a long process. We wrote a lot of songs but then realised they sounded a lot like Radiohead because we'd tried being too serious. Now, I love Radiohead they're an awesome band, but we're Does it Offend You Yeah? and that’s not really our thing. So we ended up keeping two of the songs and dumping the rest. We rewrote a lot of the songs and we're now in a position we're we've got a wide range of different songs on the album, but they're still in a similar sort of vein, unlike our first album. That’s pretty much what we spent the last year and a half trying to do, find a sound.
SB: Does it Offend You Yeah? has been supporting The Prodigy on their Australian sideshows, how’s that been?
Matty: It was pretty surreal at first, I mean, I used to have a picture of Keith on my wall as a youngen, and now I get to watch him play every night from the side of stage. It’s surprising how quickly you become comfortable with it though.
SB: In an interview recently you boys were talking about the different songs you lost your virginity to. If someone was gonna lose their virginity to Does it Offend You Yeah? which song would you recommend?
Dan: Hmmm, I think it depends on the situation. If you guys are thrashing round all drunk at some party, then probably ‘Lets Make Out’ or ‘Lesbian Octopus’. If its some romantic scene and you're actually in love, then I’d have to say ‘Dawn of the Dead’.
Matty: Can I just say, on an unrelated subject, that we friggin' love Chris Lily from ’Summer Heights High’.
SB: How did you know about ‘Summer Heights High’ ? Is it big in the UK?
Matty: Nah man not really. I was on tour with this other band and one of them introduced me to ‘Summer Heights High ’ and I fell in love with it instantly. I then introduced it to the rest of these boys and now we quote it like daily. It's the best. I was gonna write 'Dicktation' on my guitar for this tour but I was too lazy.
