The New Year is bringing new hope to Molly Meldrum.

According to his brother Brian, the music mogul, who’s been in hospital since a near fatal fall at his Melbourne home on December 15, has made a “step in the right direction.”

The 68-year-old is currently recovering after having spinal surgery to several fractured vertebrae on New Year’s Day and his family are hopeful it will be the last operation he’ll have to undergo.

''In terms of his overall recovery, it's certainly a step in the right direction,” Brian told the Sydney Morning Herald.

“In terms of his mobility down the track, he’ll be fine.”

The host of MTV Classic’s ‘Mastered By Molly,’ who suffered multiple injuries after falling three metres while putting up Christmas decorations, could also soon be moved out of intensive care at The Alfred hospital.

"There's a chance he could be out of intensive care and into a ward by the end of next week," his manager Mark Klemens told the AAP on Saturday.

On Boxing Day, the showbiz guru also reportedly spoke for the first time since his fall, uttering the words, “I’m sore” and “I’m tired.”

"[They] are random words [but] they are a great sign,"
added Mark.

Our thoughts and hearts are with Molly and his family as we wish him a speedy recovery.
