While the rapper's epic set (which included a cover of Oasis’ ‘Wonderwall’) silenced detractors, it was only natural that his wifey Beyonce would be wary of joining the line-up.
But according to co-organiser Emily Eavis, her buddy Chris Martin was not only instrumental in putting the bill together for the event, he was the one who persuaded Bey it was a chance not to be missed!
According to mtv.co.uk, Emily told the Radio Times: "Chris is a bit wary of people knowing he’s been so involved, I don’t know why because it’s actually cool."
"Chris is as loyal as they come – he’ll do anything for Glastonbury. He’s really an unlikely frontman. Most people are a bit more all-consumed with their own thing."
She also revealed that the bootylicious vocal powerhouse planned her summer of touring around her Glasto performance, explaining: "Luckily, we spoke to Beyoncé before she planned her tour this year, so she managed to put Glastonbury in her schedule, then build a European tour around it."
Emily said it’s been a goal to get the 'Halo' songstress on the bill since she saw her perform last year. According to the festival’s official website, she said:
"I went to see her live last year and was blown away by the might of the show. She has such soul, an amazing voice with an incredible, all-female band. She knows how to deliver live, and she packs a big punch -- it's gonna explode!"
She continued: "She is, I believe, the first female solo artist to headline, so it's a big moment for us. What better way to see off the Festival till 2013?"
The 29-year-old songstress, who wowed crowds with a medley of Queen's 'Bohemian Rhapsody', Prince's 'The Beautiful Ones'and King of Leon's 'Sex On Fire' at an electric warm-up gig in France last weekend, will close Glasto when she headlines the Pyramid stage on Sunday night (26 June).
