They’re as well known for their humanitarian efforts as they are for their chart topping hits – and now, U2 have paid tribute to Nelson Mandela.
The Irish rockers were playing a gig at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia when they got the crowd to sing happy birthday to former president, who was celebrating his 93rd birthday.
According to the New York Post, the rockers showed the video at Mandela’s celebratory lunch, which was hosted by actor Morgan Freeman. Morgan played the human rights champion in the Oscar nominated pic ‘Invictus’.
The ‘Beautiful Day’ hit-makers are currently wrapping up their 360 world tour, which has officially surpassed The Rolling Stones 2005 tour as the most successful of all time. According to NME, U2 will have grossed more than $700 million by the time the tour finishes on July 30.
