Question: Where’s the only place in the world you’ll get Robbie Williams, Bindi Irwin, Ruby Rose and a feather-clad Luke Steele with an identically dressed laydee on his arm?

Answer:The ‘MTV Red Carpet At The ARIA Red Carpet’show.

And the name on the lips of just as many squealing artists as squealing fans? Robbie Williams.

The hottest Aussie gals in music were all falling over themselves to get a peak at the rubber-faced pop fox.

From Bertie Blackman – “I can’t wait to see Robbie” – to Natalie Bassingthaighte – “There’s one performer that everyone wants to see and his names begins with Robbie!” It’s a wonder the red carpet didn’t get slippery with drool.

We were slap-bang in the middle of asking Cassie Davies about her cute, spangly gold outfit when Robbie’s limo rolled up to the edge of the scarlet catwalk and he emerged.

And then we lost her.

Same with Aussie Idol host and singer, Ricki-Lee. She was in the middle of telling us about her get-up – “It’s the first time I’ve worn red on the red carpet” – when she spotted the former Take That man.

“Ooh, it’s Robbie,” she sighed. And was gone.

Luckily we got some sense from 11-year-old Bindi Irwin, who was up for Best Children’s Album with ’Jungle Dance Party’ (never off the MTV stereo).

She told us: “I’m looking forward to seeing Jessica Mauboy. She’s one of my favourite singers and a wonderful woman – she does a lot for Australian wildlife.”

Cool Kids Temper Trap and Eskimo Joe, meanwhile, were brimming with praise for Empire Of The Sun, who were represented tonight by singer Luke Steele wearing an impressive half jacket/half mammoth and a lady friend dressed exactly the same. FYI: no sign of bandmate Nick Littlemore.

Eskimo Joe’s Kav Temperly said: “We’re up for three awards which is a pretty good number but I reckon this is the year of the Empire. I’d love Luke to get all the credit because it’s such a killer album.”

Meanwhile, hosts Kate Ritchie and actor Gyton Grantley were bricking it ahead of their big gig.

Kate trembled: “I wasn’t nervous about presenting until people started asking and now I’m terrified.”

Gyton added: “Underbelly might be one of the ‘scariest’ TV shows around but at least you get to do another take if you cock it up. Aargh!”

And the final word from the rosy rug went to Guy Sebastian.

So, Guy did you like it like that?

“I never thought I’d write something that became such a big catchphrase. This girl came up to me the other day and said (in monotone): ‘Guy Sebastian, do you like it like that?’ She wasn’t even trying to be funny, she was totally deadpan. It’s weird.”

Oops, sorry...

We kick off the show with killer performances ...
