Their mantelpieces are already overflowing with Grammy’s, VMAs and AMAs, but now, U2 and Jay Z will have to find some room for a Sports Emmy, thanks to their musical efforts with the Super Bowl and 2010 Fifa World Cup!

According to MTV.com, the rapper has won a sports Emmy for Outstanding Music Composition/Direction/Lyrics for his rehash of Run This Town, which aired at last year’s Super Bowl.

The performance, which featured Jay playing maestro while football highlights flashed up on the big screen behind him, was a version of his chart smashing hit with Rihanna ‘Run This Town’ off his 2009 album, The Blueprint III. The song, which was mixed with a rendition of CBS’s NFL theme song, also featured orchestral arrangements care of the E.S. Posthumus music group.

Also honoured were U2, who took home a Sports Emmy for their contribution to the spots that were used in ESPN’s coverage of the 2010 World Cup. Pre-recorded music that was filmed in South Africa by the Soweto Gospel Choir was mashed with live concert footage from U2’s 2009 California concert.

Congrats guys!
