It’s hard to believe it’s been almost five years since sultry songstress Jade MacRae entered our consciousness and stole our hearts with ‘You make Me Weak’. Now, two albums later and an extensive period of touring, travelling and rounds of the press circuit, the Melbourne-based singer is back with some bling on her ring finger and some brand new tunes!

Due to join Phrase and Illy on stage at MTV Snow Jam, Jade rings up from sunny Noosa to talk keeping warm, throwing snowballs and the craft of writing…

MTV: So you’re heading to MTV Snow Jam to perform on stage with Phrase, and the conditions are going to be pretty fierce! Have you performed in freezing temperatures before?

Jade: No, definitely not! I’ve done a few things in the extreme heat, but not in the extreme cold. So it should be fun. I think I’m going to have to rug up and be snow bunny!

MTV: Are you worried that the chill might affect your vocal performance?

Jade: Maybe – nothing that a bit of Jagermeister can’t fix! I think we should be fine. I haven’t found the cold too bad for my voice in the past…

MTV: Have you got anything special lined up for your performance?

Jade: Not as yet, but you never know. We always like to make the show something exciting. Maybe a few snowballs at the audience [laughs]. I think he’s bringing a full band with him. He’s on tour at the moment, and he’s just been smashing it, so I think everyone’ll have a ball.

MTV: Congratulations on your engagement to Phrase! Do you think it’s easier to perform with someone that you have a close relationship with?

Jade:It’s nothing I’ve done a lot of in the past, I haven’t been intimately involved with anyone that I’ve worked with before in that way. I definitely feel like we have a great time together on stage, and a lot of people have told us that they feel like we’ve got a great chemistry. I feel that so far it’s been working for us, and I’m really excited to see him performing at the moment and see how his new album’s being received.

MTV: Well we can’t wait to see your set on stage with Phrase! We’ll see ya backstage for a shot of Jagermeister.

Jade: [laughs] Sure will!
