Kelly Clarkson has been quick to defend herself against claims that she ‘copied’ Beyoncé, after many noted the striking similarities between her new single ‘Already Gone’, and B’s track, ‘Halo’.

According to an interview with a Canadian radio station, Kelly says she had written ‘Already Gone’ before ‘Halo’ even went into production – insisting that her entire album was finished well before Beyoncé’s ‘I Am… Sasha Fierce’ was released.

Needless to say, Clarkson is spewin’, and openly blames the similarities on the co-writer and producer of both songs, Ryan Tedder of OneRepublic.

"Ryan and I met each other at the record label, before he was working with anyone else. He's from Oklahoma, I'm from Texas; we got along really well and had some of the same influences," Clarkson said. "We wrote about six songs together, four or five of them made the album. It was all fine and dandy. I'd never heard of a song called 'Halo' ... [Beyoncé's] album came out when my album was already being printed.”

Perezhilton.com reported on rumours that Beyoncé heard the demo of Kelly’s track, and demanded that Tedder produce something similar for her, and then rushed to release it before ‘Already Gone’.

Tedder is yet to respond to MTV News' request for any comment on the situation.

This business is a bit of a sore spot for Kelly. She fought the record company to prevent the release of the single, but they went ahead without her blessing.

"It sucks, but it's one of those things I have no control over," she told the CBC. "I already made my album. At this point, the record company can do whatever they want with it. It's kind of a sh---y situation, but ... you know, you learn."

‘Gone’ and ‘Halo’ do share some striking similarities, most notably in the backing track, which features sombre piano, crashing drums and hand-claps.

Kelly’s prime concern seems to be the way people will perceive her, without knowing the truth.

"No one's gonna be sittin' at home, thinkin' 'Man, Ryan Tedder gave Beyoncé and Kelly the same track to write to,'" she said. "No, they're just gonna be sayin' I ripped someone off. I called Ryan and said, 'I don't understand. Why would you do that?'"
