Don’t forget to catch all the action when Snow Jam 2009 - On The 'Piste' With MTV, Premieres on MTV, Saturday August 15 @ 5pm.
Despite weather that was all kinds of crazy, hundreds of punters gathered at Falls Creek, Victoria to get amongst the action of
MTV Snow Jam 2009.
Jade MacRae’s sultry vocals kicked off
Phrase’s set, with the rapper wasting no time warming the crowd’s icy appendages with his unique brand of urban beats. Shortly after, the rapper was joined by protégé
Illy who proved he was one to watch on the fledging local hip hop scene.
Cut Copy DJs played a mix of beats from the past and present, and despite ice hailing down from the sky, hundreds of punters stuck around to watch them work the decks like demons.
Talking to
MTV shortly before the event, CC's
Tim and
Dan admitted they didn’t know how the extreme conditions would affect their performance.
Tim said: "Being in the snow is a new one for us! Because we’re DJing, it is going to be easier than playing because we don’t have to worry about our fingers freezing up. It’s pretty tough to play guitar and sing in the cold."
The duo, who have recently finished an epic twelve month tour, are looking forward to some time off and creating some new tunes for their loyal fan base.
"We’ve just finished touring, so we’re having some downtime and writing some new tracks. It’s nice to have the chance to be able to look at a new record and get creative.
"It’s probably too early to tell which direction we’ll go in, but at this stage it's about absorbing ideas and figuring out what we’re into before we start writing some music. Every new track feels like it’s in a different direction when you’re starting out on a new project, so hopefully it will take form when we get into it.
"The goal is to build on what we’ve done. We want to be a band that grows through each release; it’s pretty tough these days, bands are chewed up and spat out without releasing one record. We’re constantly inspired by each other and what everyone brings to the band. We will be pushing ourselves and making an interesting record for ourselves first and foremost, and then if you’re happy with it, you’ll always have an audience."
Earlier in the day, French Canadian pro-snowboarder, Charles Reid was crowned the winner of the first ever
