In news that is set to upset tens of fans, New Kids On The Block have cancelled the Aussie leg of their tour.

Why? Well, in their own words, the 30- and 40-something manband have become victims of the pesky, bloody recession of all things.

Taking to his blog, 40-year-old Donnie Wahlberg, um, explained: "Despite warnings that the financial problems plaguing the world would compromise the Australian tour - they never gave up on this dream and neither did we – I'm sorry to say that now, it is true.

”We are not going to Australia.

“Like many of our fans Down Under, we too are saddened. Australia has always, always, been one of our favorite places to travel to. And quite honestly we tried very hard to make it work. However, we are, in fact, in the middle of a worldwide recession and we just cannot make it work.

“We can only assure you that when the recession's stranglehold on the world's economies eases up a bit we will find a way to make this work.”

It must have come as quite a shock to Donnie, Danny, Jordan, Joey and Jon to realise just how much the global economic downturn had messed with them. After all, it was only a month ago they excitedly announced their seven-day string of Aussie dates which were set to take in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, Brisbane, Wollongong and Newcastle in August and no doubt would have led to many 30-and 40-something women wondering whether they should go and buy a ticket or not.

Yup, the recession must have hit the poor blighters damn hard.

Just be grateful you weren’t struck down by swine flu, lads.
