Wolfmother led fans on the righteous path of riffage to the warmer months at the ‘MTV Summer Event’ last Tuesday, (December 1, 2009) and proved the band are well and truly back with bite.
Not even a noise complaint from the NSW Supreme Court could stop them from rocking out in central Sydney as punters happily danced off the last of the winter blues.
Since the release of their eagerly awaited sophomore album ‘Cosmic Egg’, the Grammy-winning rock act have been busier than a three-legged man in a butt kicking contest. And according to frontman Andrew Stockdale, since the new-line up of guitarist Aidan Nemth, and bassist/keyboardist Ian Peres was launched, the band haven’t looked back.
“Since the new Wolfmother crew has been together, the shows have been going really well,” fuzzy-haired frontman told MTV. “We've done a lot of shows this year, probably around sixty and its fun.
“I mean, these guys [the band] have never toured the states or the UK so to turn up there and play like, massive theatres and do that for the first time is a real trip.”
But it wasn’t all work for the local boys while ensconced in LA’s seedy underbelly.
“We've done lots of interesting shows, like at the Neil Young Bridge Street benefit - we all met Neil Young and went to his house and hung out and lots of cool things happened along the way.”
The band also got the chance for some macabre sight seeing, taking the time to drop into the hotel where The Doors' Jim Morrison famously stayed.
“I went to his hotel that he stayed in in LA, it's really weird. He stayed there because there's a pub right next door, and he used to just go to this room and wipe himself out and write all the lyrics and the whole room is covered in graffiti and lyrics. You should go check it out if you've got the chance.”
After a spell overseas, the lads are getting ready to tour our fine land with a schedule full of local dates, including supporting AC/DC on their stadium tour.
“We’re looking forward to getting into the old summer festival season,” Stockdale added. And we’re looking forward to having you back, Wolfmother!
