Not only does he front one of the biggest selling rock groups of all time, he tirelessly campaigns against poverty in Africa, has earned a knighthood, was nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize and has even been named by Time as Person Of The Year. Yep, when it comes to celebrities – you don’t get much bigger than U2’s Bono.
Given his lofty list of achievements, it’s hard to believe that anything could intimidate the Grammy award hit-maker – but in a revealing interview, the rock god has revealed there is one thing that got him shaking in his boots – and that was meeting Alicia Keys!
"I was terrified the moment I met her. I was shaking in my boots," the U2 frontman admitted at the premiere of Alicia’s documentary, ‘Keep a Child Alive with Alicia Keys,’ according to USweekly.com
The Irish philanthropist, who met Alicia when they recorded a cover of Marvin Gaye's ‘What's Going On’ with dozens of other musicians in 2001, added: "I was very moved by her singing of course, but what was interesting was the hard questions afterwards, and I think it's those hard questions that she asks that lead her."
While Keys talked about being pregnant and empathetic when filming her documentary about AIDS in Africa, the U2 singer chimed in and said: "She's scary, isn't she? She's scary."
He also went on to say that the songstress has “lioness energy” and that being a new mum won't allow her to "let other mothers suffer."
Alicia’s charity ‘Keep A Child Alive’, which she set up in 2003, aims to assist those affected by HIV/AIDS in Africa and India. She hopes her documentary, which is premiering today on World AIDS Day, will reach out and encourage people who want to help.
"Even if you never have been able to travel there, or if you never can, that doesn't mean you can't travel with us and really see it for yourself," she said, according to Stuff.co.nz…
