MTV: Hi, Pixie. How are you enjoying Australia?
Pixie Lott: I really like it but I haven’t had too much time to see it so I’m hoping I get to come back in summer and see it properly.
MTV: Have you had chance to do much sight-seeing on your whirlwind promo tour?
Pixie: When I was in Rome I got a few hours off and got to see some of the beautiful buildings and I loved it ‘cos it’s all kind of holy and religious. There was a swimming pool at the hotel so I got to do some sunbathing, too. I really loved Rome.
MTV: You share a management team with Aussie gals The Veronicas – have you met them yet?
Pixie: I haven’t actually met the girls but I knew about them for a long time before they released anything in the UK ‘cos we worked with the same songwriters and had the same management. I’ve seen them play live and they seem like lovely girls so I’m sure we’ll cross paths at some point.
MTV: What’s been the craziest experience you’ve had since hitting the scene?:
Pixie: The thing that was most surreal to me was when 'Mama Do' went to No 1 in the UK because I thought that that sort of thing was impossible and it’s crazy that things like that are achievable.
MTV: 'Mama Do' is about sneaking out of the house to meet a boy, what else inspired the songs on your album 'Turn It Up'?
Pixie: I drew from loads of different experiences and situations but it would always be when I was really upset, like if I’d had an argument with my family or someone, that I’d automatically want to write a song and take it on to the piano
MTV: We read a story your record label imposes speaking bans on you from time to time to preserve that husky voice of yours? Any truth?
Pixie: My record label say to be careful if I’ve got a performance coming up but it’s mostly me that imposes the bans. I’ll make sure I voice-rest before a big show ‘cos I do like to talk a lot! Especially on the phone with my friends –I’m away from them all the time at the moment and I miss them so much. I’ll try not to use the phone before a big show. Once, I didn’t speak for a whole week and it was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do in my life.
Pixie Lott's 'Mama Do' is out now and the debut album 'Turn It Up' hits stores in October.
