There were no nudie runs, pregnancy revelations or microphone stealing, but the 2011 American Music Awards dished up the OMG moments with some seriously jaw-dropping performances to make it a night to remember!

The night clearly belonged to the ladies, with Taylor Swift, Nicki Minaj, Katy Perry, Beyonce and Jennifer Lopez scooping up the majority of the gongs, while Justin Bieber left empty handed, according to the dailymail.co.uk.

Taylor Swift swept the board with honours for best artist and album in the country category, and also went on to beat out Adele, Lady Gaga and Katy Perry for the ultimate accolade – Artist of the Year!

“This is so crazy!” Taylor said as she accepted the award, which she also previously won in 2009.

As she scooped her first award for the night she told the crowd, “Thank you so much oh my goodness, this is amazing.” She also thanked her fans for “filling up the arenas,” her band and crew, as well as her brother who she had brought along as her date.

Nicki Minaj, who opened the show with a dazzling performance with David Guetta, scored the Favourite Rap/Hip Hop Artist Award and Favourite Rap/Hip Hop Album for her LP ‘Pink Friday’ – although her sky-high Oscar de la Renta heels almost stopped her from getting to the podium! Luckily, a chivalrous gentlemen offered his assistance to help the Femcee on stage…

Katy Perry was in her element with three costume changes! Showing off her curves in a series of stunning gowns, the starlet was surprised on stage after a heartwrenching rendition of her song ‘The One That Got Away’ by Heidi Klum, who presented the 27-year-old with a special achievement award for being the first female pop singer to have five No. 1 singles off one album.

She tweeted later, “O' what a night! Thanks for my amazing award AMA'S, nice company to be in with that one! Glad I could play my lil ol' gitter for u tonight.”

But if there was anyone who stole the show, it would be a glittering J-Lo, who wowed the crowd with a seriously raunchy performance that included grinding on Pitbull and an onstage strip!

As she collected her award for Favourite Latin Artist she said, “It's been up and down and just exciting and overwhelming and so many things.”

“I'm grateful for all my blessings” she added, before thanking her family and babies.

Other winners included Rihanna, Beyonce and Adele, who all gave their thanks in pre-recorded messages. But while Girl Power was in full force, boys were also given some credit with Bruno Mars awarded Favourite Male Artist.

.

“If the fans don’t mind I would like to share this award with my homies Justin Bieber and Pitbull” he said.

Maroon 5, who performed their smash hit ‘Moves Like Jagger’, also scored Favourite Pop/Rock Band/Duo/Group, while also picking up gongs were Lady Antebellum, Hot Chelle Rae and Usher.
