The Sydney-based rider is set to showcase his urban snowboarding skills at the very first MTV Rail Jam on the 30th July. Tom will battle it out along side Burton international pro snowboarders Mark Sollors and Charles Reid, and local Burton riders Jye Kearney and Robbie Walker for the chance to win $10 000 prize pool.
As part of MTV Snow Jam, Burton Snowboards are transforming a 20 step staircase in Falls Creek Village into a purpose built snowboard terrain, setting the stage for gravity bending rail slides and stunts.
It’s set to be a gasp-worthy display; the internet is littered with footage of hardcore boarders failing to land near-impossible stunts, and its clear riding handrails is not a sport for the faint-hearted. But for punters game enough to give it a crack, Tom has some advice.
“Know your limits. Try and do everything as safe as you can. You can still do gnarly stuff, but be smart about it! Don’t just jump into it and not think about it properly.”
“I’ve been pretty lucky, I’ve only knocked myself out a bunch. I haven’t really had too many crashes. I try to be smart about it and not do anything we’re I’m going to get really hurt…"
After the winner has been announced, DJ Maths will be kicking off a ’Vodafone Snow Sessions’ competition on the main stage, where he will select budding DJs from the crowd to mix it up with the best in the biz. The best performer will walk away a Nokia 5800 XpressMusic from Vodafone with a massive $2,000 Vodafone Prepaid Flexi Cap recharges. MTV Snow Jam will then continue throughout the evening to Cut Copy DJs and local rapper Phrase.
