"After careful consideration, Ashlee Simpson has decided to postpone her summer tour," the singer's publicist said in a statement on Saturday. "She is committed to giving her fans the best show possible, and will be back better than ever and ready to rock in the future."
And while the postponement of the tour will leave some fans crying into their hair extensions, at least Ash won't let down fans Christina Aguilera style. Even with a bun cookin' in the oven, Christina continued with her world wide tour and disgusted Kiwi fans when she cancelled her New Zealand date two hours before she was set to perform. Apparently the fear was that her spirited dance moves and tight costumes would put her unborn baby at risk.
Even with a full face of make-up, morning sickness just ain't pretty huh Christina?
So considering this, we can be (kinda) sure that the tour postponement was announced because the younger Simpson sister is up the duff, and NOT because of disappointing album sales and an underselling tour.
While waiting three months before announcing baby news is universal decree, unfortunately these rules don't seem to apply to gossip-famished Hollywood, and poor old hubby Pete Wentz recently caught some flack for fibbing to MTV when asked about Ashlee's pregnancy last month. At first the couple denied the reports, then later just refused to comment.
Pete fessed-up to lying but had this to say, "Every woman, no matter who they are or what they do for a living, has the right to wait at least 3 months before sharing this very personal news," he wrote. "We wanted to wait until after the first trimester and get a clean bill of health from our doctors before confirming anything, just like any other couple.
"Being a boy I have no idea how to respond to such things and my first instinct was to protect her and the baby.
"It's insane that you can't let happy news brew in Hollywood. This wasn't about press or anything. It was about the health of the baby and trying to find a way to be happy with what should be the most happy time of our lives in the middle of a press blitz. I apologize to anyone who felt misinformed but the truth is, the person and growing baby is who I felt most loyal to protect and defend."
Yeah, you tell 'em Pete!
Meanwhile, the new Mrs. Wentz was in Vegas with her parents and husband for the Palms Place grand opening party where Wentz was spinning.
He later dedicated a song to his "baby momma," who was sitting in VIP with her mom drinking water. Awwww.
For those of us gagging to see Ash lip-syncing, ahem, performing her new album on stage, don't expect to see her on the road until well after her baby is born - a few years from now on her NEXT record!
