Ashlee Simpson was not only spotted wearing a diamond ring on her wedding finger while promoting her new album The Sauce the other day, but was also asked about it. And as it turns out, Ashlee denied the ring was anything to do with a pregnancy (that would be a new and strange tradition anyhow), but said that it was a promise ring from Fall Out Boy Pete Wentz.

What did that mean, exactly?

"It just means he hasn't asked my dad yet," Ashlee reportedly said.

But as happy as Ashlee might be with the diamonds, a promise ring might be as close as Pete gets to adorning Ashlee's finger, if her dad has anything to do with it. Ashlee's poppa has made no secret that he's not all that into Pete's professed bisexuality, even though well, it's not as if Pete wants to screw him or anything.

But between engagement rings, promise rings and Jonas-Brothers-style chastity rings, the humble left ring finger is available for instant publicity - just ask Paris Hilton. She's been sporting an unidentified band on her finger since all of last week, when she started dating new beau Benji Madden.

Nobody's bothered asking Paris about that one, however, because as everyone knows, Paris' obsession with bands lasts about as Nike's were in fashion. Also, she just doesn't understand chastity. Though promises might be a little bit more on her radar.
