Every year in the lead up to the show, a Radio Forum is held, where all the radio stations from across America and a select few international outlets are lined up at tables in a big room where they interview talent associated with the show.

I was there working with the MTV International PR team looking after press from China, Germany, UK and of course Australia! I was very lucky to have the one and only Andrew G and his producer Andrew Sync from 'Hot Hits Live in L.A.'!

Then it was time for the main event - the '2011 MTV Video Music Awards'! No matter how many awards shows I do, I never get used to it and never lose the excitement that goes with it. They are hands down my favourite thing about working at MTV and 100% my true passion.

The '2011 MTV VMA Pre-Show' Black Carpet kicked off at 4pm US time and from that very second it was on - there were people everywhere! My job was to assist walking talent if needed and to make sure that the carpet flowed. The priority outlets were at the top of the carpet - that turned into an absolute bottleneck with all the celebs stopping for interviews, so we had to make sure we continued to wrap them up and move them on to the next outlet.

Highlights of the Pre-Show would have to have been seeing the one and only Justin Bieber and his red pants in the flesh and seeing Beyonce’s baby belly!! Before the show started Beyonce got up on the photo wall, looking gorgeous in an orange dress, and pushed it flat to show she was pregnant! That moment was electric - I felt like I was witnessing entertainment history!

The photographers and press were going absolutely bananas, as were the MTV staff - everyone was on the walkie talkies screaming “Did that just happen?! Can someone please confirm Beyonce just showed her baby tummy on the carpet?!”

The carpet wrapped and it was on to the main show – as it kicked off live there was no opportunity for straggling behind so we had to make a run for it! My job during the main show was to take performers to the backstage press room if they were interested in doing any press.

It was a great spot to be as I was positioned near the side stage door in front of the backstage VIP room, so I saw everyone that was involved in the show. It’s very surreal - I saw Britney Spears a number of times, Jared Leto, Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne, the cast of Jersey Shore (Snooki’s hand bag was almost bigger than her!) the cast of Awkward (LOVE that show), Katie Holmes, Kim Kardashian, Beyonce, Pitbull and the Foo Fighters!!

I saw Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber holding hands, Russell Brand and Jared Leto having deep and meaningfuls, and heard all the celebs in the VIP room screaming and going crazy when Beyonce showed off her baby bump after her performance.

A definite random highlight was when I was side of stage for the end of Drake's Lil Wayne intro (Drake's one my favourite artists) when he walked off stage, hugged me and said "Good to see you!!" I don’t know who he thought I was, but I ran with it!!

After the main show we went back to the press room to wait for the remaining talent to come back through. Katy Perry was so sweet – she spent a long time in there taking photos and answering questions which the press loved.

I’d love to say that after the event I partied like a rockstar at all the VIP after parties, but if I'm honest, my feet were so sore and I was so tired and hungry I ended up eating dinner and going to bed!

It’s shows and experiences like the '2011 MTV Video Music Awards' that make me stand there and pinch myself over the fact that I actually do work for MTV. Standing on that black carpet and in that auditorium I was so proud! Hope you enjoyed following my adventures.
