Last week, we reported that JD Fortune had been unceremoniously dumped as front man for INXS – and now, we can reveal who's taking his place!
According to Billboard.com, Irish singer/songwriter Ciaran Gribbin, who has worked with Snow Patrol and was nominated for a Grammy in 2010 for co-writing a new song for Madonna, has been in Australia working on new material with INXS’ Andrew Farriss – including a track called ‘Tiny Summer’ which is currently streaming at INXS.com.
Ciaran, who first made inroads to the iconic Aussie act when he met the INXS keyboardist and songwriter two years ago at a mutual friends barbeque, told Billboard:
"INXS definitely played a huge part in my musical education as a songwriter and something I aspired to, so to be in the band now is pretty amazing."
"The last four years have been an amazing journey for me. But without a doubt, hand on heart, the most amazing part of my musical journey is about to begin (with INXS). I know that as a fact. I feel in some way like I've really arrived now."
Meanwhile Farriss has said that unlike JD Fortune, who became the band's front man when he won the 2005 reality show ‘Rock Star: INXS,’ Gribbin's posting with the band was "very organic."
"It wasn't high-pressure or anything. I just enjoyed the guy's company and really enjoyed his voice and listening to his songs, his music.
"Later on I realized the collaboration, artistically and especially songwriting, could be something that would be really, really good for (INXS). So far that's been true."
"I'm currently writing more songs for INXS with Gribbin, and we as a band hope to share more new music with you all as soon as possible," Farriss added in a statement.
Gribbin said: “It's a real feeling of achievement to have a band of INXS' stature believe in me as a performer and a singer. It's genuine dream-come-true, fairytale stuff for me. I'm still waking up in the morning here in Australia going, 'How did I get here?'"
Gribbin will be recording new material with the rockers for a new studio album and will also join them when they hit the road for shows in South America, Europe and in Perth.
