On a quick trip Down Under in 2010, we sat down with the divine Miss Dita Von Teese to find out which music videos ranked among her most stylish of all time.
Find out what the style maven had to say below!
Madonna – ‘Express Yourself’
“This is one of my favourite videos, which is inspired by one of my favourite old films: Fritz Lang’s ‘Metropolis’. I think this is just a beautiful video – I love Madonna in full 1930’s form. I especially love this moment where Madonna’s wearing this acid green, long 1930’s gown and her hair is in perfect, platinum Marcel waves; she’s petting this black cat and her red lips are vibrant in technicolour. I just think there are so many beautiful images in this video - it’s super stylish.”
Beyonce – ‘Why Don’t You Love Me?’
“I love the way that Beyonce has sort of taken the inspiration of Betty Page and made it her own. I think that the makeup and the hair is so stylish and I love the way that it’s filmed and looks like a 1960’s film. And I love when Beyonce gets mad! I love that she’s just outrageous and beautiful and I have to say, I think that Beyonce wears a black cat eye like no-one else!”
Gwen Stefani – ‘What You Waiting For?’
“I think this is just a fabulous music video. I love Gwen - she’s a wonderful human being and a real beauty. I think it’s the best music video she’s ever made and I think she’s really the only worthy platinum blonde to follow in the footsteps of Madonna.”
George Michael – ‘Too Funky’
“This video is iconic in the fashion world because George Michael showed us the extravagance and fabulousness of the Paris fashion world, with some of Thierry Mugler’s best designs. And this video also showcases all the best supermodels of that era. I have a lot of friends that live in Paris that actually worked on this music video and said it was maybe the longest three days of their lives! It’s just really amazing that you get to see the beauty of these extravagant outfits that Thierry Mugler is still revered for.”
Madonna – ‘Justify My Love’
“My favourite music video of all time is Madonna’s ‘Justify My Love’. This video was banned from MTV and I think banned all over the world when it first came out, but I believe that this is Madonna at her very very best. It sort of makes you catch your breath because it’s so sexual and it’s just exciting. All the characters in the video are very authentic because when Madonna was making this video she used real people from the real fetish scene, so it doesn’t look like a video that was just cast. And she was also having this fabulous affair with Tony Ward who stars in the video, so it’s just really a visual treat to watch!”
