But now, it seems there might be some good news for The Darkness fans – the band is dusting off their pleather onesies and reforming!
According to The Sun, lead singer Justin Hawkins and his brother Dan have put an end to their bitter feud, which stemmed from drugs and alcohol abuse, and are believed to be ready to rock with original band members Ed Graham and Frankie Poullain.
The band, who split in 2006 after Justin quit, have confirmed their reunion with the launch of a new website www.theactualdarkness.com, and an active Facebook page. Although the website is just a landing page, excited fans assume it heralds the return of their fav glam rockers. No official statement has been released.
Justin told The Sun in 2006 the reason behind his leaving was due to a debilitating cocaine addiction.
He said: "I feel bad for the others, but I can't do it any more.
"I hit absolute rock bottom. I spent over £150,000 on cocaine in three years - a frightening amount. I was consuming up to five grams a day which cost me £1,000 a week, sometimes more.
"I regularly used to stay up for four days at a time on coke and alcohol binges.
"I became secretive, volatile and verbally abusive, a really unpleasant person to be around. There were lots of periods I don't even remember, blackouts."
Soon after, Dan and the remaining Darkness bandmates formed a new band Stone Gods, while Justin formed Hot Leg, but neither band came close to reaching the monumental success of The Darkness, who scooped Best Rock Act at the 2004 Brit Awards.
