Sometimes the best things are just around the corner, and today we’re in awe of Sydney’s local indie genius, Bridezilla
. As the four girls slip between the curtains for an intimate recording backstage, (drummer missing in action) you can’t help but stare.
Witty and angelic in presence, Holiday Sidewinder (vocals), Pia May (guitar), Millie Hall (saxophone/keyboard) and Daisy Tulley (violin) take their place beneath the octagonal foam isotopes, the girls bearing an eerie and elegant charisma.
This instrumental indie outfit has garnered great acclaim from local music press. The band was featured in the September 2007 edition of Australian Rolling Stone and has become favourites on the homegrown festival line-ups.
Eccentric, pale and delicate the girls have a fashion all of their own, that falls somewhere in-between Page 13 gothic and sweet sixteen Mary Jane. You simply can’t look away.
Holiday sits gracefully, with an Indian inspired headband complete with dangling fur tassels suspended from her now white blonde locks.
The enchanting vocalists introduces a song that does not appear on Bridezilla's EP titled ‘Heart You Hold’ and the four girls slip into a trance of classical instrumental bliss.
Bridezilla
prove why they’re regarded as one of the most talent instrumental acts to emerge from Sydney in a while. Holiday lulls you into a state of idle and pleasant contemplation. Her hands move with precise movement, syncing with her harmonious vocals, as if the hands are floating rhythmically atop of the music.
Heart You Hold
proves to be another goose bump inducing composition from the girls as haunting as it is charming.
The song escalates to a chilling climax as Daisy’s elegant violin intertwines powerfully with Holiday’s angelic voice.
Abruptly the song is finished seemingly as quick as it started, and the audience is left with bated breath, the morosely whimsical sirens have stopped and MTV look on in awe.
These four ladies are ones to watch, and if today’s backstage sneak-peak is anything to go off, we’d suggest running to their next show, walking being another option though hurry, these girls can’t be missed.
