The inspiration behind one of The Beatles’ biggest hits, ’Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds’, has died.
The Lucy in question was Lucy Vodden - a woman who, as a little girl, was best friends with John Lennon’s son, Julian.
Two years ago, Lucy revealed in a BBC interview that she was the Lucy of the song, explaining that Julian had drawn a picture of her at nursery school, with star-shaped eyes, and that it had captured the imagination of his famous dad.
After Julian had shown the picture to his pops explaining that it was “Lucy in the sky with diamonds,” musical history was in motion, with daddy Lennon using the line as the title for one of the most popular tunes on the band’s 1967 classic album, ’Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’.
Lucy was just 46 when she passed away earlier this week and had been battling lupus - an incurable disease of the immune system.
In a statement, Julian Lennon said he was “shocked and saddened” by her death.
